Last nights meeting was an opportunity to see the Masters of Print Salon des Refusés. The Masters of Print exhibition is run by the PAGB with a view to encouraging the greater use of prints as opposed to the more frequently used DPIs. Members of camera clubs all over the country are invited to put forward entries and this year in the region of 1000 prints were entered from which just 60 are chosen for the exhibition. So as you can see it is quite difficult to be amongst the chosen few. The PAGB created the Salon des Refusés to allow some of those who did not make it into the exhibition to be seen and appreciated. They are, if you will, the second place images.
The exhibition is made up of entries in 3 categories – colour, mono and nature – in order to make for a varied and interesting exhibition. Three of our members, Nick, Polly and Quinton (who has now moved away) had entries in the Salon des Refusés this year which gave us an added interest. Congratulations to all of them.
Peter Elliston comperèd the evening and we were asked to divide ourselves between 4 tables as the images were arranged in 4 groups. We were asked to look at and discuss the pictures and select our favourite 5 from each group which would be whittled down to the top three at the end of the evening. One group of images went to each table were viewed, discussed, the favourites noted down and then passed to the next table. So by the end of the evening we had all seen all of the images. Chris volunteered to collate the results and the final three were chosen. And well done Polly, your picture was one of the top 3.
